Key insights about SBB
Category Differentiation
SBB is Switzerland’s national railway operator, not an adtech, martech, or software platform. It should not be confused with media, SaaS, or digital marketplace businesses that share similar acronym structures.
SBB: About

It creates value by running passenger rail services for the Swiss public, operating freight rail services for commercial customers, and extending reach through subsidiaries and cross-border European operations.
How SBB Works & Monetises

Swiss Study: Newsrooms Common but Silos Persist
A Swiss study published 19 August 2026 finds that the corporate newsroom model is now widespread in Swiss organisations, with nearly half of surveyed communications leaders working in newsroom structures and roughly another quarter using newsroom approaches. The quantitative study, authored by researchers from the Universities of Freiburg and Bern and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences (216 respondents), reports measurable operational benefits (faster reaction to trends, improved media presence, cost efficiency) but finds no empirical reduction in siloed thinking. The study also shows broad use of AI tools in communications teams but limited strategic governance or resource commitment for AI. Funders included Innosuisse, SBB and Axpo; Newsroom Communication acted as practice partner.

Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) has launched a nationwide advertising campaign focused on people aged 60 and over. Developed together with the agency Leo (Zürich/Lausanne), the campaign centers on staying mobile and connected with family and friends, and features two TV spots plus placements in digital out-of-home, online and print. The campaign has been running since 22 June 2026. Leo — formed from Publicis Zürich and Publicis Lausanne in April and part of Publicis Groupe — handled creative work. Matthias Bütler, member of SBB’s executive board and interim head of Market Passenger Transport, said the campaign aims to make older people choose public transport as their primary travel mode. Production credits include director Gonzaga Manso, Shining Film AG, DubDub and Prodigious.
