Vision Fund (SoftBank Vision Fund)

The business model is an investment fund structure. Capital is committed by anchor and external investors, managed by SoftBank-controlled advisers, and deployed into private technology companies. Value is created through sourcing deals, concentrating capital into selected companies, supporting portfolio growth, and ultimately realising gains via exits, secondary sales, refinancing, or mark-ups in portfolio value. The fund itself is not a product business; its economics are tied to fund management and investment performance.

Vision Fund is SoftBank Group’s large-scale investment fund platform focused on deploying capital into technology businesses. It does not operate as an adtech or software vendor; instead, it functions as an investment vehicle whose activities are advised and managed by wholly owned SoftBank subsidiaries, including SB Investment Advisers (UK) Ltd. for Vision Fund 1 and Vision Fund 2.

The platform creates value by raising committed capital from institutional and strategic backers, allocating that capital into portfolio companies, and seeking returns through appreciation, exits, distributions, and portfolio revaluations. Its direct customers and counterparties are limited partners, co-investors, portfolio companies, and the SoftBank-controlled advisory structure rather than end users or enterprise software buyers.
